The Prosolv® Advantage

Prosolv® is the only technology of its type to certify depressurized canisters for recycling. It greatly benefits the environment by converting a propane canister into a recyclable steel container.




Spent propane canisters are considered hazardous waste while still under pressure, but once they are safely vented and relieved of pressure they can be recycled as scrap steel. With Prosolv®, canisters are safely depressurized, eliminating an entire category of hazardous waste. Since each propane cylinder must be handled as hazardous waste, traditional propane disposal methods can be expensive. Prosolv® pays for itself after recycling as few as eight propane cylinders.

Prosolv® is also the only technology of its type to certify depressurized canisters for recycling. It greatly benefits the environment by converting a propane canister into a recyclable steel container, thus diverting it from landfill. Recycling one small propane cylinder is equal to recycling one (1) pound of steel, which saves 5,450 BTUs in subsequent steel production.




Using The Prosolv® System

Insert Fuel Canister
Thread fuel canister into bottom opening of Prosolv®, allowing top handle to rise freely. Briefly press Gauge Activation Button to determine fuel content of canister.

Gauge Activation
If gauge registers in RED area, do not empty canister. Remove and put back into service. If gauge registers GREEN, press Activation Button to fully vent remaining propellant to -0- psi.

Depress Upper Handle
Penetrate nylon sealing sleeve of canister. Firmly lift upper handle to remove nylon sleeve. Depress again to contact internal valve stem, rotating knob counter clockwise eight (8) revolutions to remove valve stem.

Remove Propane Cylinder
Once removed, invert canister. Valve system will drop out - if not, use needle nose pliers. Disengage nylon sealing sleeve by firmly lifting upper handle.

Steel Recycling Tag
Insert steel Recycling Certification Tag into fuel canister to indicate that valve stem is removed and canister is empty.

Residual Propellant is Filtered of VOCs

The Activated Carbon Filter threads directly to the threaded opening, one of the safety features incorporated into the system. The filter addresses air quality and emissions standards in 5 simple steps:

STEP 1

Dry propellant moves through the Activated Carbon Cartridge, which absorbs hydrocarbons and odor.  It also acts as a secondary flashback arrestor during the recycling process.

STEP 2

The Activated Carbon Cartridge contains 1 1/4 pounds of activated carbon. Made from ground coconut shell, the activated carbon promotes rapid evacuation of the propellant.

STEP 3

A built-in gauge notifies users of when the cylinder is empty, and the activated carbon filters all residual propellant of VOCs, addressing air quality and emissions standards.

STEP 4

Once the propane cylinder is depressurized of all propellant, the sealing sleeve and internal valve stem must be removed for recycling.

STEP 5

A Prosolv® certification tag must be inserted into the emptied can for guaranteed recycling. Instead of hazardous waste, you are left with a RCRA compliant empty propane cylinder that can be safely recycled with your other scrap steel.
