Turn Aerosol Cans Into Scrap Metal
In as little as five seconds, Aerosolv leaves you with an empty steel can that can easily be recycled with your other scrap steel.
How Aerosolv Works:
Depressurizes the Aerosol Can
The Aerosolv puncturing unit threads directly onto the 2” bung of any 30-gallon or 55-gallon drum. Simply place an aerosol can into the Aerosolv unit and lock the safety cap. With a press of the handle, a pin pierces the dome of the can. The non-sparking puncture pin is one of many safety features of the Aerosolv system.
Liquids Collect Directly Into the Drum
One of the best features of the Aerosolv system is that residual liquids are collected safely in the drum, ready for eventual transportation without further handling. One 55-gallon drum will hold the residual liquids from 4,000 spent aerosol cans.
Residual Propellant is Filtered of VOCs
Aerosolv's Combination Filter threads directly to the ¾” bung of the drum, one of the many safety features incorporated into the system. Although not required by RCRA for aerosol can disposal, this filter addresses air quality and emissions standards in two ways:
1) The base of the Combination Filter is the Coalescing Cartridge. This transforms residual liquids into droplets that collect in the reservoir of the Coalescing Cartridge, allowing for easy drainage, directly into the drum if desired. Dry propellant then moves through the Activated Carbon Cartridge, which adsorbs hydrocarbons and odor.
2) The Activated Carbon Cartridge contains 1 1/4 pounds of activated carbon. The activated carbon promotes rapid evacuation of the propellant, even from a full aerosol can. The new colormetric carbon cartridge clearly indicates the need for cartridge replacement. Independent lab tests indicate that VOC removal is significant:
-From a full can, 70% below the OSHA Short Term Exposure Limit (STEL) for Toluene and 95% below for Xylene.
-From an empty can, 98% below the STEL for both
-Total hydrocarbon emissions, 70% below the 300 ppm desired limitation.
Now the RCRA compliant Aerosol Can can be Recycled!
De-pressurized cans meet the EPA definition of scrap metal 40 CFR 261.1(c)(6)

Other Ways that Aerosolv Innovates:
Automatically Prevents Static Build-Up
Each system is shipped with an Anti-Static Wire. This provides convenient installation, anywhere in your plant. The six-foot wire prevents static build-up by grounding the drum, as required by OSHA for liquid storage vessels.
Separation of Liquids When Aerosolv is Used on Separate Drums
By setting up the system on separate drums in a shop, residual solvents can be collected in one drum and residual paints in another. The solvents can be recycled right in the shop as parts cleaner. Paints can be reclaimed, often resulting in waste minimization credit.
Relieves the Pressure of Aerosol Can Disposal
With Aerosolv, you can safely puncture the aerosol can, relieve the can's pressure, filter VOCs, and collect any residual liquids. Recycling the punctured aerosol cans eliminates an entire category of hazardous waste from your waste stream.
